Russian Movie Classics Humor - Bambarbiya Kergudu Episode
By admin | May 31, 2007
Did you see Kavkazskaya Plennitsa (Caucasian Captive Woman)? This is a great classic humor episode from this movie. The plot is as follows: naive young journalist Shurik falls in love with Nina, a niece of local small businessman who wants to merry her to a wealthy Communist Party member and big man (this is Soviet Union). After a little discussion they decide to capture her with the help of local bandits. They fail because Shurik follows Nina everywhere and hinders their plans. Then they decide to play a practical joke on Shurik pretending this capture to be a native beautiful custom of capturing a bride. As Shurik came to Caucas as a journalist seeking for folklore, toasts and customs, they baited him. Here is a meeting of this businessman, Shurik, and three local bandits - so called Kunakis (this trio is very popular in Russia, actors Vitsin, Nikulin and Morgunov). The following scene occurs.
Businessman (introducing Kunakis): - They do not speak Russian… (after a pause) but they understand everything.
First bandit (making random senseless words with a fierce voice): - bardabary…. kuzal…
Businessman (trying to produce anything meaningful for a translation and making fierce signs to the first bandit): - He says Bon Appetit! Help yourself, please!
Second bandit (after lighting a cigarette from a cool gadget on his jacket, with friendly voice): Bambarbiya! Kergudu!
Businessman(translating): He says if you deny their proposal, they will knife you! (Shurik stares with fearful eyes)… It is a joke!
Second bandit (in Russian): A joke!
Then they discuss the process of capturing Nina.
